Cape Disappointment Lighthouse, WA
At the cape on the north shore of the Columbia River mouth, Cape Disappointment commands the entrance to Portland and the Columbia River. Some 200 ships perished before Congress authorized building of this lighthouse. Completed in 1856, it remains as the oldest lighthouse in Washington.
 
When we were there, the Coast Guard closed the hiking trail to the lighthouse due to recent cougar sightings. Guess we will have to make it another trip before I can see this lighthouse close-up...
