Fort Point Lighthouse, CA
At the south end of the Golden Gate Bridge, the iron tower of Fort Point Lighthouse is the third structure built at that spot. It was completed in 1864 on the roof of the fort guarding the entrance into San Francisco Bay. Construction of the Golden Gate Bridge with its own navigational lights replaced the function of the lighthouse, and the lighthouse was discontinued in 1934. Fort Point was designated a National Historic Site in 1970.
