Port Pontchartrain Lighthouse, LA
Completed in 1855, this brick tower was built on a concrete pad about 2,000 feet offshore.   In 1880, the tower top was raised resulting in a focal plane of 42 feet above the lake water level.   The lighthouse was discontinued in 1929.   With various landfill projects, over the years, the lake is not even visible from the lighthouse.   It now sits on the grounds of the University of New Orleans Research and Technology Park.
