Halfmoon Reef Lighthouse, TX
Originally built in 1858 to mark channels and obstacles in Matagorda Bay, this wooden hexagonal screwpile lighthouse withstood many severe storms until 1942, when it was severely damaged in a hurricane.   In stead of repairing it, the Coast Guard sold it and it was barged to shore.   Today, the lighthouse sits alongside SR35, where it serves as the Port Lavaca visitors center.
