Cove Point Lighthouse, MD |
|
|
Built in 1828 and still active today, this 51-foot lighthouse guides vessels into the Patuxent River.
It was automated in 1986 and is located inside an active Coast Guard station. Access to
this lighthouse is limited to bus tour from Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons, MD.
We got to Calvert Marine Museum only to find that there was a 2-3 hour wait for the tour.
So we drove the 10 miles out to the lighthouse ourselves.
Pouring rain greeted us as we stood in front of the gate (snapping these miserable
pictures). Visitors who do not want to experience our disappointment are encouraged
to contact Calvert Marine Museum (410-326-2042) the day before their visit.
