Hooper Strait Lighthouse, MD
Constructed in 1867, this 41-foot screw-pile structure was pre-fabricated at a Baltimore depot and shipped to Tangier Sound.   When it was scheduled for destruction by the Coast Guard in 1966, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum acquired the property.   It had the lighthouse cut up and barged 40 miles up the Bay where it was then reassembled and restored to like-new condition.   Hooper Strait Lighthouse is now the main attraction of the museum located at Navy Point in St. Michaels, MD.
