Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse, MD
Built in 1875, Thomas Point Lighthouse is the only screw-pile lighthouse in the Chesapeake Bay that is left on its original site.   Located at the entrance to the South River, it remains active warning mariners of the shoal.   A unique cast iron ice breaker was constructed about 100 feet from this 43-foot hexagonal structure to protect it from ice floes.
