North Dumpling Lighthouse, NY
This 31-foot octagonal brick tower was built in 1871.   Following automation in 1959, the light was moved to a nearby steel skeleton tower and the North Dumpling property sold to private ownership.   The light was returned to the tower on the lighthouse in the 1980's, at the request of Mr. Levitt, the fourth owner of the property who oversaw extensive renovations of the house and island.   The island’s present owner, Mr. Kamen, was denied permission to build a windmill to power his generator, he countered by declaring himself as Lord Dumpling II, reigning over the soverign nation named North Dumpling Republic.
