Bodie Island Lighthouse is located 6.3 miles south of Nags Head just north of Oregon Inlet.
Thanks to its inclusion as part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, the light station remains
virtually free from twenty-first century intrusion. The marshy area just beyond the lighthouse
is great for birdwatching (see this). The lightkeeper's house has been converted into a visitor center,
over a hundred thousand visitors travel to see this lighthouse each year.
